Middlesbrough beat West Ham 2-0 at the Riverside to progress to the quarter finals. Stewart Downing gave Boro the lead after five minutes, with a superb curled free-kick. Boro scored their second in the 20th minute, Sanil Tuncay firing home from just outside the Irons box. Boro will now face a tough away trip to Everton in the last eight of the competition.

Hull City beat Sheffield United 2-1 at the KC Stadium, to progress to the last eight of the competition. Hull got a huge slice of luck to take the lead in the 24th minute, Kyle Naughton powering a header past his own goalkeeper, the ball cannoning off the crossbar and crossing the line according to the referee’s assistant. Billy Sharp equalised for the Blades, finishing from a few yards out. Peter Halmosi sent the Tigers through, with a close range effort in the 55th minute. Hull will now face a trip to either Arsenal or Burnley in the quarter finals.

Coventry beat Blackburn 1-0 at the Ricoh Arena. Coventry controlled the majority of the game and the goal came in the 59th minute through a Leon Best header. Clinton Morrison missed two good chances for Coventry, one in each half. Coventry will now face Chelsea in the quarter-finals.
Fulham eventually beat Swansea 2-1 at Craven Cottage. The visitors took the lead just after half-time through a Jason Scotland effort. Fulham applied late pressure and Clint Dempsey headed the equaliser in the 77th minute from a Simon Davies corner. Fulham found the winner in the 81st minute through Bobby Zamora, scoring from another Simon Davies cross.
