Premier League and FA Cup round-up 02+03/02/2010

Premier League

England captain John Terry endured jeering and booing as league leaders Chelsea drew 1-1 with relegation-threatened Hull City at the KC Stadium. Hull threatened to cause a shock as they took the lead through a headed goal from defender Steven Mouyokolo. However Chelsea hit back in the 42nd minute. Didier Drogba equalised for the Blues with a superb curling free-kick. Chelsea are now two points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Fulham claimed a crucial 1-0 victory over bottom of the table Portsmouth at Craven Cottage. The home side had suffered five consecutive Premier League defeats before this encounter. They halted that run a 74th minute strike from midfielder Jonathan Greening.

New Fulham signing Stefano Okaka missed a chance from close-range in the first half. Fulham boss Roy Hodgson will be hoping the on-loan star can do better in the coming games. The victory takes the Cottagers back into the top half of the table. Portsmouth remain bottom of the Premier League, six points away from safety.

FA Cup Fourth Round Replays

League Two Notts County caused the shock of the round as they defeated Premier League Wigan at the DW Stadium. Young keeper Kasper Schmeichel impressed and must of been one of the contenders for man of the match and County left it late to score their goals.

The Magpies took the lead in the 75th minute, as Stephen Hunt headed home Ben Davies corner. Their lead was doubled just three minutes later as Wigan defender Gary Caldwell found a way past his own keeper. Notts County are now the lowest ranked team left in the competition.

Championship Crystal Palace also caused a minor shock with a 3-1 victory over Premier League Wolves at Selhurst Park. Palace took the lead in the 62nd minute through a close range effort from Danny Butterfield. Three minutes later Butterfield coolly slotted home after being put through by Darren Ambrose.

And three more minutes later Butterfield completed an incredible hattrick, as he poked home through the legs of Wayne Hennessy's legs. Wolves scored a consolsation goal in the injury-time as Karl Henry rifled home. The victory is a big boost for cash-strapped Palace and Wolves can now concentrate on their fight to stay in the Premier League.

League One Leeds United's Cup run came to an end after a 3-1 defeat to Premier League Tottenham at Elland Road. The visitors took the lead on 37 minutes, as Jermain Defoe's volley looped over Casper Ankergren in the Leeds goal. Leeds equalised just before the break through Luciano Becchio, after Heurelho Gomes had saved Jermaine Beckford effort.

However Tottenham took control of the game in the second half. They got their reward for their dominance in the 73rd minute as Jermain Defoe pounced on a David Bentley cross. Defoe completed his hat-trick in injury-time, running clear of the Leeds defence and firing home to clinch Tottenham's place in the fifth round. Defoe could of had a hatful of goals in the game but will have to be happy with the hat-trick.
